Chirpty has shut down: how to make an interaction circle now

Published

Chirpty no longer works: its site says recent changes to Twitter mean it cannot continue. You can still make the same kind of picture with a tool that reads public posts instead of going through X's paid interface. On Mootmap you type a username, with no login, and the people the account talks with most are drawn around it.

For a few years "my Chirpty" was simply what people called the picture of their closest accounts. If you went back for a new one and found a goodbye note, here is what happened and what to use instead.

What Chirpty's site says

One message, and nothing else: "Recent changes to Twitter mean that Chirpty can't continue." It thanks its users and points to the team's account for future projects. It does not say which changes.

The background is not a secret, though. In 2023 X replaced free access to its programming interface with paid plans, and many small tools that had been built on it closed in that period. Twitter Circle, another generator of the same kind, now carries a shutdown notice too.

How the tools that work today are different

They do not ask X for your data. They read the posts that are already public, the same ones anyone can open in a browser, through an independent service, and compute the circle from those. That has two consequences.

  • No login. There is nothing to authorise, because nothing private is read. It also means a circle can be made for any public account, not only yours.
  • No likes. Likes on X have been private since 2024, so a circle today is built from replies, quotes, reposts and mentions. Someone you only ever liked will not be in it.

How to make one now

  1. Open the X circle generator.
  2. Type a username, yours or anyone's, without the @ if you like. The account has to be public.
  3. Wait about half a minute while recent posts are read.
  4. Choose the colours and how many people to show, then download the picture, the story picture or the video, or post it straight to X.

Under the picture you get the ranking it came from, with how many interactions went each way, so you can see why each person is there and take out anyone you prefer not to show.

Other options

Mootmap is not the only one. We checked the main generators on the same day and wrote down what each does, including where the others are stronger: X circle generators compared.

Common questions

Is Chirpty coming back?

Its site does not say so. On 5 October 2026 it showed a farewell message and pointed to the team's account for future projects.

Do I need to log in to make a circle now?

Not with tools that read public posts. You type a username and nothing else: no X password, no authorisation screen.

Will the new circle look like my old Chirpty one?

The idea is the same: you in the middle, the people you interact with most around you. The people may differ, because likes can no longer be counted and each tool weighs replies, quotes and reposts in its own way.

It is free and needs no login. Make your X circle and see who is closest to you.
