Turn your X circle into a mosaic.
Type a public username and the people it talks with most become a mosaic of photos, the account on the largest tile.
Works on public accounts, with no X login. Posts are read from this browser through FxTwitter, an independent service. How the data is handled.
An example: invented accounts, faces from old paintings. The controls already work: try them.
How to read the mosaic
A plot is a person. The more they and the account talk in public, the sooner they come in the mosaic and, in Tiles and Rows, the bigger their plot.
- The accountThe largest plot, on a patch of the map's heart colour. It is not ranked.
- The closest threeNumbered 1 to 3 on a coral chip, always. Turn on Ranks to number everyone.
- Everyone elseOne plot each, in ranking order from the top left. In Tiles the closest get the middle-sized plots; in Rows each row is further away.
- No photo yetAn initial on lilac, until the photo arrives or when X has none.
What the mosaic shows
An X mosaic lays out the people an account talks with most as tiles of profile photos, with the account itself on the largest one. It starts from the same reading and the same ranking as the X Circle Generator: the circle shows those people by how close they are, the mosaic packs them edge to edge into a picture made to be posted.
Three layouts, four formats
- Tiles. Plots of three sizes fill the land without gaps: the account in the top left corner, the top of the ranking on middle-sized plots, everyone else on small ones.
- Grid. Every plot is the same size, with the account in the middle. The ranking decides the order, not the size.
- Rows. The account on top, then rows that get longer and smaller towards the bottom, like a team photo.
- Formats. Square (1200 by 1200 pixels) for a post, 4:3 landscape (1600 by 1200 pixels), 3:4 portrait (1200 by 1600 pixels) and 9:16 for a story (1080 by 1920 pixels). The mosaic is laid out again for each one, so the plots always fill the land.
How the ranking works
Each person gets a score from the account's recent public posts and the posts that mention it. A reply counts 3, a quote 2.5, a mention 1.5 and a repost 1. Every interaction loses half its weight each 30 days, so this month counts more than last, and an exchange that goes evenly both ways counts double. The method is explained in full on the X Circle Generator page.
Under the mosaic, everyone in it is listed with the interactions that put them there, in both directions. Untick someone and the next person in the ranking takes their plot.
What it cannot see
- Likes, follows, bookmarks and direct messages: none of them are public.
- Private accounts.
- Anything older than the posts it reads: a few hundred recent ones, at most 120 days back. For an account that posts all day, that can be a single week.
- Friendship. The mosaic shows who talks in public, not who is close.
- If posts by other people cannot be read at that moment, the mosaic comes from the account's own posts and the replies under them, and the page says so.
Where your data goes
The username you type is sent from this tab to FxTwitter, which receives it together with your IP address and the usual technical details of a web request. Profile photos load from X's image server, or through our relay when the browser cannot load them directly. The ranking and the picture are made in your browser.
Nothing about the account is stored by us unless you ask for a link. Then the picture you are looking at is saved for 30 days, with the username of the account and nothing else, so that the link can show it as its preview. Whoever opens the link reads the account again, at that moment. The full details are in the privacy policy.
Common questions
Do I need to log in to X?
No. There is no login and no password. The mosaic is made from public posts, read through FxTwitter, an independent service that X does not run.
Is the mosaic the same as the X circle?
Same people, same order, a different picture. Both read the same public posts and rank people with the same score. The circle places them around the account by how close they are; the mosaic packs them into photo tiles that fill the picture.
Which layout should I pick?
Tiles if you want the closest people to stand out, Grid for an even wall of faces, Rows for a picture with the account above everyone else. Switching is instant and does not read the account again.
What size is the picture I download?
It follows the format: 1200 by 1200 pixels for square, 1600 by 1200 pixels for 4:3, 1200 by 1600 pixels for 3:4 and 1080 by 1920 pixels for a 9:16 story. Pick the format before you download or post.
Can I make a mosaic of someone else's account?
Yes, any public account works: a friend's, a brand's, a project's. The photos and names in it still belong to real people, so use the picture respectfully and never to harass or misrepresent anyone.
Why is someone I talk to missing?
The mosaic only sees public replies, quotes, mentions and reposts in the posts it read, so a quiet month or a friendship that lives in direct messages does not show. It also stops at 50 people.
Can I take someone out of the mosaic?
Yes. Untick them in the list under the picture and the next person takes their plot. A link you make after that shows the mosaic without them.
